Overview

Senior Wastewater Process Engineer – Associated Engineering

This role is located in Canada and supports offices in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina or Markham.

The opportunity involves leading process engineering elements for wastewater treatment projects across planning, design, construction and operations-related activities.

The role also focuses on developing the wastewater treatment area of our core Water practice and mentoring junior professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process planning, analysis, optimization and design activities for wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Support cost estimating, specifications and contract document preparation and commissioning activities.

  • Serve as a liaison with clients and support project pursuit teams in business development, including proposal preparation.

  • Contribute to marketing efforts through activities such as conference presentations.

  • Mentor and develop young professionals within the wastewater treatment area.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and operations/maintenance staff to ensure project success.

What You’ll Do

This high-profile position requires leadership both internally at Associated Engineering and externally with clients.

It includes studies, assessments, and both preliminary and detailed design of wastewater treatment facilities.

The candidate will develop process designs and conduct process alternatives evaluations across unit processes, support cost estimates, specifications, and commissioning activities, and participate in project pursuits and client engagements.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in civil, chemical, or environmental engineering from an accredited university.

  • A graduate degree in environmental engineering with wastewater treatment process-based thesis research (preferred).

  • Eligibility for professional licensing with the applicable provincial association (e.g., PEO, APEGBC, APEGGA).

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience.

  • Experience with treatment facility process simulators (e.g., BioWin, GPSX) and development of wastewater/recycle stream characterization programs.

  • Experience conducting process stress-testing and evaluating treatment performance through demonstration projects.

  • Experience developing process designs and evaluating process alternatives across wastewater treatment and/or resource recovery units.

  • Experience working in a consulting engineering environment.

  • Strong leadership, management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Team-oriented with ability to work with diverse groups including managers, engineers, and operations staff.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills, and ability to engage audiences and summarize findings.

  • Client-service orientation with ability to elicit and understand client needs and outcomes.

  • Regular conference attendee and speaker.
