The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations.
It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development.
Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities.

The internship in the Statistics Division, Santiago, will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office.
Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an as-needed basis.
Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Director of the Division, the intern will work on research on the relevance of official statistics for democracy.
Tasks will include: - Conduct a diagnostic of the state of SDG data APIs for the countries in the region.
- Propose best practices to improve the dissemination of SDG data in the Region through APIs. - Generate a set of ETL tools that allow for automated extraction of SDG data from countries with public APIs.
Qualifications/special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme.

A good knowledge of APIs for statistical or open government data (design, consumption, and documentation), as well as ETL processes, data integration, and automation tools, is desirable.
Knowledge of SDG indicators, data standards, and statistical dissemination practices is also desirable.
Familiarity with open data principles, interoperability frameworks, and metadata standards (e.g., SDMX, JSON, CSV, XML) is desirable.
Knowledge of Python or JavaScript, and of databases and SQL, would be an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
