Canonical, a leading open‑source software provider, is looking for a software engineer to join our HPC team.

The role focuses on delivering a world‑class HPC experience across bare‑metal and public‑cloud environments, integrating Python software development for automation and HPC cluster management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high‑quality Python software for HPC cluster automation.

  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team to deliver HPC software packages and charms that deploy and manage clusters.

  • Write high‑quality, rigorously designed code and debug issues to produce reliable solutions.

  • Contribute to technical documentation that defines best practices for authoring high‑quality operators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or related field.

  • Solid experience writing modern, maintainable Python code.

  • Strong background in math and sciences with a track record of developing high‑quality software.

  • Familiarity with HPC environments and desire to unlock HPC for the world.

  • Experience with Infiniband, RDMA, CUDA, MPI, Slurm, Lustre, Singularity, Docker, and public‑cloud image design is a strong advantage.

  • Experience operating HPC clusters in production is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes, public cloud, OpenStack, LXC/LXD, Debian packaging, or Go is a plus.

  • Capacity to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

Location

The role is based remotely in the EMEA or Americas regions.
