Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) & Security Coordinator
NOIRLab is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) & Security Coordinator to help ensure the safety and security of our people, facilities, and operations across Chilean sites, including high-altitude observatories.

What You’ll Do
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive security programs to protect personnel, assets, and infrastructure in observatory, industrial, and office environments.
- Coordinate and oversee physical security operations, including guard teams, access control, surveillance systems (CCTV), alarm systems, and perimeter protection.
- Conduct risk, threat, and vulnerability assessments (TVAs) for industrial and high-risk environments, identifying and mitigating potential security breaches.
- Supervise and evaluate security contractors, ensuring compliance with established standards and operational readiness at all times.
- Lead and document incident investigations, coordinating with local authorities and internal stakeholders as needed.
- Support EHS activities such as safety audits, emergency response drills, and compliance checks, in coordination with the EHS team.
- Ensure adherence to national and international regulations in both security and occupational safety.
- Promote a culture of accountability, risk awareness, and operational discipline in all security and safety-related areas.
What You Bring
- Technical degree in Safety Engineering, Security, or a related field.
- Valid OS-10 certification issued by Carabineros de Chile (mandatory requirement).
- Extensive experience in industrial or facility security operations, ideally in environments such as mining, energy, or scientific/technical infrastructure.
- Proven ability to manage and supervise guard services, contractor teams, and on-site security operations.
- Knowledge of industrial protection systems, including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and emergency coordination.
- At least 5 years of combined experience in safety and security, with a strong focus on industrial or physical protection.
- At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Familiarity with risk management methodologies, emergency protocols, and contingency planning.
- Excellent communication and training skills in both English and Spanish.
- English level (preferred): Able to communicate effectively in most everyday and professional situations, write clear reports, and participate in technical discussions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel to high-altitude observatory sites and perform field work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in industrial or critical infrastructure security (e.g., energy, mining, scientific facilities).
- Experience working in international or multicultural organizations.
- Diploma or postgraduate studies in security management, risk analysis, or public safety.
- Prior experience in security supervision, operational planning, or crisis management.
Physical & Other Requirements
- Must be able to work at altitudes up to 2,700+ meters (Cerro Tololo & Cerro Pachón).
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to drive in remote terrain.
- May require medical clearance post-offer and periodically during employment.
