Job description

The UC School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position in Veterinary Sciences within the tenure-track faculty.

We invite you to join the challenge of advancing the consolidation of UC’s Veterinary Medicine School, a unique project in Chile and the region.

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is a leading academic institution in Latin America, ranked among the top three universities in the QS Latin American University Rankings.

The UC School of Veterinary Medicine was founded under the founder Faculties of Agronomy and Natural Systems, Biological Sciences, and Medicine, with a mission to ensure academic excellence.

It offers high-level teaching and research facilities, including the upcoming largest small animal clinical hospital in the country, built to international standards and regulations to ensure quality and dignified service for animals and their guardians.

The selected candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to the institution and to training future professionals by delivering high-quality, innovative teaching and supporting undergraduate and graduate students in their learning process.

A proven capacity for high-impact research is also expected, with the ability to lead original research programs funded by internal or external sources.

The candidate should show, through their publications, the ability to establish an original research line in the field of Veterinary Sciences, for instance Veterinary Immunology, Comparative Biomedicine, Ecology and Conservation, Ethology and Welfare, among others.

Application Requirements

  • Professional degree in Veterinary Medicine, with a PhD or Doctoral degree
  • Applicants for the Associate Professor category must demonstrate a record of publications and successful external grant funding appropriate to the academic rank.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate curricular courses according to their area of expertise.

    Candidates must be highly motivated to continually improve their teaching skills and to use active learning methods.

  • Complete the UC University Teaching Diploma offered by the Center for Teaching Development within three years of appointment.

  • Conduct basic and/or applied research in the field of Veterinary Sciences (e.g., Veterinary Immunology, Comparative Biomedicine, Ecology and Conservation, Ethology and Welfare, among others), establishing an original and impactful research line.

  • Proactively seek funding to support research activities.

  • Contribute to the School’s administrative and service activities as needed.

  • Support academic excellence and a positive work environment within the School and its founding Faculties.

  • Consistently demonstrate ethical, honest, and integral behavior, in full alignment with the values of the UC community.

  • Performance-based financial incentives through biennial evaluations.

  • Institutional support for academic development.

  • Opportunities to apply for UC funds for academic mobility, internationalization, seed research, UC Academic Insertion Program (PIA UC) fund, and public impact initiatives.

  • Letter of intent, indicating motivation for applying.

    The position is available immediately, so please state your earliest possible start date in the letter.

  • Curriculum vitae (in Spanish or English), organized as follows:
    • Personal Information: name, address, phone number, email, and website (if applicable).

    • Education: list of academic degrees, including awarding institutions and dates (attach academic certificates).

    • Teaching Experience: list of institutions, subjects taught, and type of participation (e.g., lead instructor, co-instructor, guest lecturer).

    • Full list of publications indexed in WOS (Web of Science), including journal names and impact factors.

    • Select from the list of publications 2 or 3 that in your opinion are the most relevant, identifying the contribution to knowledge and the role you played in the publications (intellectual author, experimental design/data analysis, experimentation/fieldwork, writing, etc.).

    • Research projects: specify role (PI, co-I, etc.), dates, awarded funding, and institutions involved.

    • Other publications: those not indexed in WOS, case reports, book chapters, and conference participation.

    • Additional information: student mentoring, awards, editorial boards, consulting, computer skills, languages, or any other relevant details.

  • Once the application materials are received and the deadline has passed, candidates will be notified whether their application will proceed.

    Selected candidates will be invited to give an open seminar on their research area, a teaching demonstration related to the field, and interviews with the School of Veterinary Medicine’s Recruitment Committee.
